Making the Trilogy

With the advent of affordable digital camcorders and video editing software, coupled with the release of the Star Wars prequel and Lord of the Rings trilogies, the internet was abuzz with the making of "fan films". Fans of prominent movie franchises would collect whatever costumes, props, and film equipment they could and try to recreate what they saw on the silver screen for themselves and self-distribute on the internet. This wave of filmmaking helped inspire The Movie Spoof Trilogy. In November of 2003, cameras began rolling on The Movie Spoof: The Movie. What began as merely a fun exercise in fan-filmmaking and visual effects creation snowballed into a feature-length trilogy - something that had never been done before (or since). What was supposed to only last a summer turned into four years of struggle, frustration, defeat, success, broken (and mended) friendships, and the ever persistent question, "Will this ever end?" -- put simply: it was high school. After more than four years, and nearly 150 days of shooting, the trilogy was completed. Throughout the process we would always have passer-byes ask us why we were all dressed up with swords and laser guns and shooting some "stupid movie", and we could only ever come up with one response: It's fun.
